Veterinarian
Dr. Heather Burrowes is originally from Long Island, New York but has made the Capital District her home for many years. Choosing veterinary medicine as her profession was an easy choice as she has always had a lifelong love of animals, biology and puzzle solving!
Dr. Burrowes first earned her Bachelors in Science from SUNY Geneseo in 2008. She graduated with her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 and has been a small animal general practitioner ever since, with a special emphasis on pain management, sports medicine, dentistry, acupuncture, dermatology, and internal medicine. She became certified in veterinary acupuncture, earning her CVA, at the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine in 2019 and loves being able to use this skill to improve quality of life for all kinds of patients, from active working dogs to elderly indoor cats. She is Companion laser certified and is also currently working towards her Chinese herbal certification.
Joining Brunswick Veterinary Hospital in 2020, Dr. Burrowes cares for dogs, cats and small furry pets such as rabbits, hamsters, rats, mice, ferrets, and guinea pigs.
Dr. Burrowes is a part of the following associations: American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) (2012), New York State Veterinary Medical Society (NYSVMS) (2012), International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management (IVAPM) (2018), American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA).
In her spare time, Dr. Burrowes is actively involved in the local dog sports community with her Brussels Griffon, Bender, and miniature poodle, Audie, who participate in everything from competition obedience and agility to scent work and anything else that looks like fun! She is also mom to another dog, Victor, a hedgehog and chickens! Dr. Burrowes enjoys reading, embroidery, cross stitch, and hand sewing. She is also an avid cook, is proud of her large vegetable garden and also enjoys spending most of the summer either digging in the dirt or canning what it produces.
